Solar Panels and Fire Safety

While solar panels may be a popular source of 'green' energy, they present an increase risk to firemen responding to a fire:

  • Solar panels are not always immediately visible to firemen when they arrive at the scene, as they are often located at the rear of a property's roof
  • Solar panels may produce toxic fumes
  • Fire fighters may be electrocuted
  • Solar panels are heavy, and may speed up the time that it takes for a roof to collapse

More information about the risk that solar panels pose to firemen can be found  here.
